6 Months Old
My little Hamie is 6 months old today. TIme simply flies by so quickly. In temperate countries, the changing seasons remind one of the passing of time. Here in SIngapore where the weather is the same almost throughout the year, it used to be the festivities that reminded me as the months and years go by.
Now with the little one, seeing her developments and progress makes me more aware of time. She's now able to flip with ease, sit unsupported for a little while and she's also trying to crawl, although without much success. She lifts her butt high and tries to wriggle and move her legs, but her arms are still not strong enough to propel her forward. I'm sure soon she'll be able to do so.
She's 8.6kg and 68cm long now. She gained only 1kg in the past 2 months and so DaddyHam and I were worried about her development. However, when her statistics were plotted on the graph, she was a whooping 97th percentile in terms of weight, so there isn't any cause for worry. If anything, we might wanna start worrying if she is too big, her length was only 75% percentile.
Read an article today in which research shows that women of the future will tend to be shorter and chubbier. I hope Hamie is an exception.
Ever since we started her on solids 1 week ago, she has been struggling during her milk feeds. We have to literally pin her down and push the bottle to her. Funny thing is once in, she'll start drinking hungrily for max 1 minute. Then the struggle will start all over again. Its getting difficult to feed her!
But she's enjoying her solids. She likes her rice cereal and the carrots and pumpkin. That's all she has tried at the moment. There was also supposed to be potatoes. Except that something went wrong and the puree ended looking like a mass of starchy glue. Gross.
And her present this month? A sweet pink bear. I've high hopes that she and Ms Bear will be good friends. She started talking and holding Ms Bear the moment she saw her. They're both cuties!

Yum Yum
Baby Charmaine had her first taste of solids today. The initial plan was to wait till next week, when she's six months old. But she simply cannot wait. She hasn't been interested in her milk feeds, struggling through every one of them though we can tell that she's hungry. She has also been showing interest in our food, staring at us each time we eat and opening her mouth whenever we tried to offer our food to her.
Since 1 week isnt going to make much of a difference, DaddyHam and i fed her a tiny portion of rice cereal today. Tiny portion because we just wanted her to try. Before we realised, it was all gone... and so we had to make another portion to appease her.

This was her first food. Organic rice cereal. It was bland but she loved it! She kept reaching out to grab at the bowl and spoon and would stick her neck out to get nearer to the food.
And since carrots contain so much nutrients i decided that the first puree i'll prepare for her were to be carrots. It was easier than i expected. Bought some beautiful organic carrots, wash, peel then boil them. Cut into smaller chunks then puree it. IThe quantity was just sufficient to fill 8 cubes. Will let Hamie try them this week. She already tried a little as i was preparing them and she seemed to like it too. What a relief coz i simply hate carrots. Hoping that i wont have to go through what my parents did in order to get me to eat carrots when i was young.
