Its our little princess's first Christmas!
We had a party for our families on Christmas Eve and it was felt wonderful to have loved ones close by as we celebrated a very special day.
The plan was then to spend Christmas morning with Hamie opening presents, followed by attending church service. It all turned out a little differently though.
After our families left on the Eve, DaddyHam and i spent the rest of the night feeling quite sick. It continued all the way till the next afternoon. And our poor princess didnt get to open her presents nor did we manage to attend church. She spent the entire Christmas morning and noon sitting in her stroller and at some point, in front of the TV too. And not once did she complain about being left in the stroller. Another reminder of how blessed i am.
Dinner was a simple take-away and only during dinner did we realise that DaddyHam was most probably down with chicken pox. And he probably already had it for the past few days!
Phone calls were made, arrangements were made. The thing uppermost on our minds was to keep Hamie isolated from the virus.
We sent baby to my parents and DaddyHam and i were off to see the doctor.
And we spent our first Christmas with Hamie being separated from her. Boo hoo.

Wedding Anniversary
its our 3rd Wedding Anniversary.
And always when i think of the day we got married, it brings a smile to my face.
I'm reminded of my wonderful husband, our loving family and our friends who helped to make our wedding day i day i'll always remember.
We spent the day shopping for presents for our little princess. Thinking of toys that will accompany her through her next stage of developments. Also mentally planning the toys that we'll buy for her in the future.

MH: Our baby isn't the cuddly kissy type.
DH: She'll probably kick you in the face ah!
It's not that she is violent, its just that she is constantly moving and looking about. She's just cant keep still for long. Plus she's got muscular powerful thighs that can easily land a mighty kick on anyone near enough to her.
It tickles me to see her kick her legs like a windscreen wiper at a super fast speed whenever she is happy. But sometimes i get wistful when i see babies nested contentedly against their mummies and wish that maybe once in a while Hamie will do so too.

Food, Glorious Food
I think Hamie is going to grow to love food.
She stares at our food and if it is brought near enough to her, she grabs it and attempts to bring it to her mouth.
We have allowed her to eat some plums that DaddyHam was having and she loved it so! She twists and turns and lurches forward just to get at the fruit :)

Land of the Rising Sun
DaddyHam and I are off to the Land of the Rising Sun!
Just thinking of the eating and shopping that we're going to do is making me heady.
But we're not bringing Hamie along... I am so going to miss her.
She's developed a cough and after putting it off for the past few days, DaddyHam and I finally brought her to the doctor today. Viral infection and despite our hesitation, we were advised to give her at least two of the big bag of medicine that was prescribed. Ends up, she is allergic to one of them. Sigh. i pray my little one recovers soon. At least i know that she is in good hands while we are away.

7 Months Old
And she's 7 months old today :)
Baby C now takes semi-solids in addition to her milk. She has tried carrot, broccoli, pumpkin, apple, sweet potato, avocado and potato. Her favorite is broccoli and sweet potato. And she purses her lips at potatoes. Ha, wait till she discovers Mac french fries. I've also given her brown rice porridge. It went down well the first few times but subsequently she started to turn away from it. One sign that she is growing, learning and figuring out her likes and dislikes. Feeding her her broccoli is so different from feeding her brown rice. Baby will keep her eyes fixed on the person feeding her and her mouth will be open for the next spoonful. When it is something she does not like, she'll be turning her head this way and that, wanting to play and her mouth will remain tightly closed.
Hamie has also started moving. It isn't exactly crawling but she can get from one place to another. The cutest bit is when she is on her hands and knees and rocking her cute little tush back and forth trying to move forward. She has yet to figure out that she has to move her hands in order to go forward. Despite this, she manages to launch herself forward, thereby moving herself closer to her toy.
She's also much better at holding her bottle. DaddyHam makes her hold her own bottle when she drinks her water and she understands that she is meant to hold it with both hands. She's also able clasp her hands in front of her. Looks like she's all prepared to wish everyone a going xi fa cai!

6 Months Old
My little Hamie is 6 months old today. TIme simply flies by so quickly. In temperate countries, the changing seasons remind one of the passing of time. Here in SIngapore where the weather is the same almost throughout the year, it used to be the festivities that reminded me as the months and years go by.
Now with the little one, seeing her developments and progress makes me more aware of time. She's now able to flip with ease, sit unsupported for a little while and she's also trying to crawl, although without much success. She lifts her butt high and tries to wriggle and move her legs, but her arms are still not strong enough to propel her forward. I'm sure soon she'll be able to do so.
She's 8.6kg and 68cm long now. She gained only 1kg in the past 2 months and so DaddyHam and I were worried about her development. However, when her statistics were plotted on the graph, she was a whooping 97th percentile in terms of weight, so there isn't any cause for worry. If anything, we might wanna start worrying if she is too big, her length was only 75% percentile.
Read an article today in which research shows that women of the future will tend to be shorter and chubbier. I hope Hamie is an exception.
Ever since we started her on solids 1 week ago, she has been struggling during her milk feeds. We have to literally pin her down and push the bottle to her. Funny thing is once in, she'll start drinking hungrily for max 1 minute. Then the struggle will start all over again. Its getting difficult to feed her!
But she's enjoying her solids. She likes her rice cereal and the carrots and pumpkin. That's all she has tried at the moment. There was also supposed to be potatoes. Except that something went wrong and the puree ended looking like a mass of starchy glue. Gross.
And her present this month? A sweet pink bear. I've high hopes that she and Ms Bear will be good friends. She started talking and holding Ms Bear the moment she saw her. They're both cuties!

Yum Yum
Baby Charmaine had her first taste of solids today. The initial plan was to wait till next week, when she's six months old. But she simply cannot wait. She hasn't been interested in her milk feeds, struggling through every one of them though we can tell that she's hungry. She has also been showing interest in our food, staring at us each time we eat and opening her mouth whenever we tried to offer our food to her.
Since 1 week isnt going to make much of a difference, DaddyHam and i fed her a tiny portion of rice cereal today. Tiny portion because we just wanted her to try. Before we realised, it was all gone... and so we had to make another portion to appease her.

This was her first food. Organic rice cereal. It was bland but she loved it! She kept reaching out to grab at the bowl and spoon and would stick her neck out to get nearer to the food.
And since carrots contain so much nutrients i decided that the first puree i'll prepare for her were to be carrots. It was easier than i expected. Bought some beautiful organic carrots, wash, peel then boil them. Cut into smaller chunks then puree it. IThe quantity was just sufficient to fill 8 cubes. Will let Hamie try them this week. She already tried a little as i was preparing them and she seemed to like it too. What a relief coz i simply hate carrots. Hoping that i wont have to go through what my parents did in order to get me to eat carrots when i was young.

5 Months Old!
My Baby's 5 months old today!
And I have just realised that it's been a month since I have last updated.
She has grown soo much. The most noticeable change is her ability to flip from her back to her front. This means that when left unattended on her playmat, she's able to roll to the opposite end of the room if given enough time.
She flips fast enough but most of the time she's distracted and ends up sucking on her fingers and thumb. She doesn't stop at just sucking on her thumb, she put in up to four fingers in at once! And she sucks and licks and make smacking noises while at it , that is till we go:" NO FING FING, Baby!". That'll usually get her attention and she'll stop for second, look at us, and then continue abielt in a more conscious manner.
She's also much more vocal now. She laughs and cackle and chuckle loudly, very unladylike, but so adorable. While out today, she spoke and laughed with the salesladies at the various shops we were at. I'm so proud of her. I am just so thankful that she'll a happy sociable baby and i pray that God will guide DaddyHam and I to continue to provide Baby with a happy and loving environment.
Some photos from the past month.

4 Months Old!
My baby is 4 months old today!
Compared to when she was newly born, she has changed so much! Her hair is longer, she's much chubbier and feels more sturdy. She now smiles and 'talks'. Her latest trick is removing her pacy on her own though she is still trying to figure out how to put it back into her mouth. She's close though, a few more days and i think she'll figure it out.
She has also learnt to flip, flipping from her front to her back. The first time she did it, she repeatedly flipped when put on her tummy. Subsequent tummy time saw her more interest in sucking on her fist than flipping. She'll even drop her mouth to her fist!

Funny Baby
Baby C likes loud noises.
As i was changing her last night, she was fussing and crying. DaddyHam came into the room and started scolding her in a stern and loud voice.
And how does she respond? She laughs! She must have thought that by being loud, Daddy was playing with her.
DaddyHam and i couldn't continue being angry and also broke out in laughter.

Reality
Back to reality, back to work.
Today was my first day back at work after being a SAHM for the past 4 months. I enjoyed the past 4 months tremendously, and even toyed with the idea of being a full time mother.
I savour the quiet moments when it was just Baby and I the entire day. I look forward to greeting her first thing when she opens her eyes with a Good Morning song. I stand at her crib for long moments just staring at her sleeping soundly and deeply. We spend time just lying on the bed, her lying on me, me staring at her and singing to her. We also spend time together watering the plants, pointing out new shoots and flowers to her.
Such were the happy memories of being with her 24/7 and i will always treasure these memories.

Outing #3 Marina Barrage
We brought her to the Marina Barrage yesterday. The weather was great! Breezy and sunny. Lots of people were there, flying kites, having a picnic or like us, just enjoying the space.
The trip coincided with her SHIT SHIT day. (Every third day is thus named coz she shits once in 3 days.) DaddyHam and I were very paranoid, checking her diaper every few minutes. There were also a few false alarms but when it finally happened, it was right in the middle of the lawn, right in front of people flying their kites and people having their picnics.
She was a good girl throughout the trip. She slept for a while, and when awake, she just quietly looked around, curious at her new surroundings and noises.
it was such great fun bringing her out and i so look forward to doing more of such in future.

Outing No. 2
As it was our last night at the flat, we decided to enjoy the shopping centre right at our doorstep for the last time.
In preparation for our trip, I tried carrying Hamie in her baby carrier facing outwards thinking that she might enjoy looking at her surroundings. And i was most pleasantly surprised when she started laughing loudly and was waving and kicking her arms and legs. I've never heard her laugh so happily before :)
DaddyHam carried her on our trip to starbucks and she was well-behaved, looking curiously around her all the time. She only started fussing when DaddyHam sat down and so poor DaddyHam had to quickly finish his coffee.

And our little darling fell asleep as we were making our way home, snuggled comfortably against her daddy.

Flip
My little bub can flip on her own!
We brought her to the doc today for her vaccination and the doctor was running through a series of tests and checks on her. One of the tests involved putting Hamie on her tummy to test the muscle tone of her neck. As we were talking, she flipped onto her back by herself!
Ha, can't wait to let her try doing that trick again tomorrow.
And as predicted by her granny's good friend, the little Ham has been certified CHUBBY. She's on the 90% percentile in terms of weight! Simply love squeezing her michelin-like arms and legs. She even has fat lines on her upper arms!

First Outing
Hamie went 'Gai-Gai' for the first time last night! It was just a short trip to the new mall to get breakfast but we all enjoyed it tremendously.
She was fussing as we were leaving the house but the moment the mobile fan was switched on, she quieten and began looking around her. Hee, my babe is one hot chick! She was in a good mood during the entire outing and did not once cry or fuss at all. She could even play peek-a-boo with DaddyHam when I was buying breakfast.
It was also our first time bringing out the stroller and the ride in Uncle Stokke must have been comfy for her as she was soundly asleep by the time we were on our way back.
With the flu virus going around, don't think there will be many more of trips to crowded malls, but we'll start with bringing her to the Gardens instead. Looking forward to bringing my little babe out more often!

Water Baby ?
YES! I think she is.
Baby C had another try at swimming and she loved it! This time round we wanted to give her more space so we didn't get into the tub with her. She wasn't afraid at all and instead relished the space to kick and splash about. Her arms flapped and legs kicked and she went round and round the tub in circles. I'm just so glad to see her enjoying herself.

Water Baby?
Hmm.. not really.
But Hamie finally went swimming!
DaddyHam and I spent 20 mins filling up the tub but she only spent 3 minutes in it before she started crying. But she seemed to enjoy her 3 minutes splashing and kicking about in the water. So we're going to try again this weekend. Maybe this time DaddyHam will not join her in the tub, thereby giving her more space to kick and move about.
We shall see if she turns out to be a water baby.

Weekend
Another weekend.. another weekend that Hamie is going to spend with her grandparents.
DaddyHam and I have kinda roped in our parents for weekend babysitting duties. His mum on Saturday and my parents on Sunday.
I'm now waiting for my two darlings to wake up. They're both snoozing peacefully, Hamie in her rocker and DaddyHam on his mattress.
Its supposed to be Swim Day for baby. Have finally set up her swimming tub and its huge! DaddyHam's first comment was that it requires LOTS of water. Well, hope Hamie enjoys her swim later.
After that we'll leave Hamie with her grandparents while we take a peek at our new house. DaddyHam says much progress has been made and i can't wait to see!
Now just waiting for my two sleeping beauties to awake.

2 Months
My darling is 2 months today!
And she has grown. She's much studier now. Her arms and legs are filling out and her neck muscles are getting stronger.
It's time DaddyHam and I start her tummy time to further train her neck muscles. We have on occasions placed her on her tummy while lying on our chest. In the beginning, she could only lay wherever we placed her. Now, she can lift her head and even turn her head. Though sometimes she doesn't have the strength to see it through and her head would fall with a thump on our chest.
And because she is a little sturdier, I have started holding her arms and legs and waving them about. Sometimes we dance to nursery tunes like Old MacDonald's Farm, sometimes we go with something more retro like YMCA. We usually do this in the late afternoon, after her milk feed and diaper change. Because it is just Baby C and I, I treasure this special time very much. I can also sense that she is enjoying herself, she'll lay calmly on my lap, move along to the music with me and look into my eyes the entire time.
Besides the physical change in her, the attachment i feel towards her is increasing day by day. I feel waves of love for her crashing over me, especially when i am feeding or playing with her. Now i understand first hand the sense of protection that a mother would feel towards her young. Now i also understand why some mothers start to revolve their lives around their children, sometimes leaving their husbands out of the picture. I pray that as Hamie grows and demand more and more of my time that i'll remember not to neglect DaddyHam and make the effort to grow our relationship.

Now i also understand why some mothers start to revolve their lives around their children, sometimes leaving their husbands out of the picture. I pray that as Hamie grows and demand more and more of my time that i'll remember not to neglect DaddyHam and make the effort to grow our relationship.

Sleep
Baby C is beginning to sleep through the night! Yay!
DaddyHam and I are finally getting some decent sleep these couple of days. About a week back, she'll finish her night feed at about 11, get patted and cuddled till 12 and sleep till 6 plus in the morning.
The first few times it happened, we were a little surprised and had prepared her milk in anticipation. But when she went right back to sleep after sucking on her pacifier, we were very relieved. Glad that she's finally figuring out her days from her nights.

Milk and Cuddles
That's all Hamie seems to want.
According to my in-laws, Hamie's a pretty contented baby who easy most of the time.
Only thing is not to mess with her milk and her cuddles. She screams for her milk feed if we're too slow. She cries and fusses to be cuddled when not asleep soundly.
Giving in to her demands for milk is easy, it is the second that is difficult, especially for sleep deprived parents. It was especially bad a few nights ago. She cried and fussed almost through the whole night and just could not seem to sleep soundly. DaddyHam ,who was already terribly stressed at work, was trying hard to pacify her through the night. And when she continued crying non-stop, he gave her a smack on her butt. Judging by her sudden louder wailing, she seems to know that she was being punished. DaddyHam and i both immediately felt super guilty. Daddy for smacking her and me for not trying harder to coax her to sleep so that Daddy could get some rest.
And the obviously easy part of Hamie is her ability to sleep through wet diapers. And i mean soaking wet diapers. And even soiled diapers. She can be a dirty cat, direct translation of ang zhang mao.

Smells
My baby smells like milk.
And I'm addicted to her smells. Can't stop sniffing at her, especially when i am feeding her.

Milestones
It gives me much joy to see Baby C growing healthily day by day.
Her cheeks have plumped out and her arms and legs are getting Michelin Man-like. She also seems to like her chin, added another one and trying to get another. Triple-chins! How is that even possible?
Her neck muscles are also much stronger, allowing her to shake and move her head from side to side. Her vocabulary has also expanded and she now 'talks' much more, making cooing and gaa gaaing sounds when awake. She's also able to focus on faces and will look at the person talking to her. Curiosity also has her looking around whenever she's moved from her bed to sofa to rocker.
My baby has grown.

Something New
26 May 2009
My baby has eyelashes! Of course she has eye lashes, or eventually will have but was super thrilled when I saw for the first time tiny whispers of lashes today.
I'm constantly amazed by God's creation with all these little discoveries about her growth and development. How perfectly we were all made by Him.

Party Time!
24 May 2009
Today was her party!
And she slept through most of it. She slept throughout all the attention everyone was paying to her, all the little pats and hugs that were showered upon her, all the pictures that were taken of her. My baby can sleep through it all.
The day started early for DaddyHam and I. Together with Aunt S, Aunt G and Uncle J, we went down early to decorate the place. It involved lots and lots of balloons. There were pretty pink, purple and ivory balloons floating all over the place. There were also giant teddy bear and milk bottle balloons that fascinated all the kids present. Pity about the biggest balloon that burst.
All thanks to DaddyHam, red eggs meant for the guests were nestled in a basket surrounded by white feathers. Also thanks to DaddyHam, a joke taken too seriously saw Aunt S, Aunt G and Uncle J guarding the eggs from the guests instead of being distributed to them. Sigh, my joker husband.

Night Owl
19 May 2009
I hope that last night was a record. Baby C only slept at 5am. The previous night was 4am. Its getting later and later and once the nanny leaves at the end of the week, DaddyHam and I shudder to think what her sleeping patterns might be like.
And when she is not sleeping, she wants her milk. So the nanny has to resort to giving her small amounts of milk in the attempt that it might soothe her.
The MMs are stressed.

Mother's Day
10 May 2009
This year's Mother's Day was my first and I received a beautiful card from Baby C. This of course came from DaddyHam and he personalised it with an imprint of Baby C's tiny hands and feet.
I think this card is going to be greatly treasured.

Don't Cry Over...

Spilt Milk....so the saying goes. And i now fully understand it on a literal level.
And when it is precious BM that i've spent the past hour slaving over, seeing it splattered across the kitchen countertop brings me close to tears. And also feelings of violence towards the culprit.

Ten Day Milestone
6th May 2009
Baby C is ten days old today!
Hard to believe that it's been ten days since Baby C has said hello to us.
Except for the confinement and one episode of emotional outburst, DaddyHam and I are generally coping well. I think this is mainly due to the wonderful support from family, frens and nanny.
For now nanny takes care of Baby C during the night, leaving DaddyHam and I to enjoy our uninterrupted sleep. We're definitely enjoying it while we can, before we morphed into pandas when the nanny leaves at the end of the month.

Hello...
26 April 2009
Baby C said hello to DaddyHam and MummyHam on the 26th Apr 09 at 1448hrs.
It all started the day before at about 5.30pm. We were shopping at Courts, looking at printers when my water bag broke. Thankfully it wasn't a gush... more like a trickle. Told DaddyHam that we had to get to the car 'NOW' when DaddyHam questioned if i was sure it was the water bag.
As I wasn't yet dilated much, doc came by and gave me a Pill to aid dilation. Doc estimated ETA at 6-9am next morning. Was allowed to shower and have dinner. By midnight, nothing much happened so I given another Pill. Despite the contractions, I was able to sleep through the night which wasn't a good sign.
Doc called the next morning to explain that she needed to put me on IV drip for antibiotics and pitocin to speed up the contractions. Sigh...I've a phobia of needles but as I realised , there isn't much choice at all. All I prayed for at that time was that baby would be delivered via a natural birth.
The pitocin worked...a little too well actually. It caused the contractions to come really fast and strong. By 11am, the pain was unbearable and i succumbed to DaddyHam's repeated suggestions of opting for epidural. It must have been all the bites inflicted upon him. Doc came at 1145am to administer the epidural and by then I was already 8cm dilated. The pain was unbearable. It was only at this point that I realised how wonderful laughing gas was. No wonder it is called the laughing gas! I literally saw stars and fireworks... little bursts of sound and light! I was most happy and refused to let go of the mask and held on tightly to it.
Can't remember much after epidural was administered. Think I must have either slept or was too spaced out by the gas. Was 'awaken' by the nurses when it was time to push. Doc was most accomodating when she realised i wanted to see Baby C's entrance and asked nurses to get a mirror. Seeing Baby C make her step-by-step entrance into our world was one of the most fufilling moments in my life.
Baby C was brought to say hello to me before being whisked off to be checked and weighed and have all the necessary things done. She was then wrapped in a white towel and brought to me to hold. Cliche, but at that moment i thought she was the most beautiful baby. For one, at least she choosed DaddyHam's genes and had a whole head of beautiful hair. Alternatively, she could have been a botak baby if she had chosen my genes.
DaddyHam? He played his part perfectly. He was supportive during my labour pains, suffering much abuse in the process. There must be a picture somewhere of the bite he suffered on his cheek! He also had to fan me continously for 2 hours, adjusting his 'fanning' speed accordingly to how warm or cold i was. It was NOT easy for him
